Driving a car is a daily routine for many people, but for some, it can be a significant source of stress and anxiety. The fear of driving a car can be paralyzing and limit daily life. If you are one of those who struggle with this fear, I have good news for you: there is a way to overcome it. One effective method that can help is PSYCH-K® method.
Subconscious mind and the origin of fears
Our subconscious plays a key role in shaping our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Many of our fears and anxieties stem from deeply rooted subconscious beliefs and experiences. The fear of driving can have various causes — from traumatic experiences, low self-esteem, fear of making mistakes, fear of the unknown, concerns about responsibility for others, to negative programming during our lives. Are you familiar with phrases like “You’ll never learn to drive properly,” “A woman behind the wheel, nothing better can be expected”?
The causes can be numerous and may not even directly relate to driving. To overcome the fear of driving, we don’t need to know the exact cause or how it originated to work with it using the PSYCH-K® method.
How to Overcome the Fear of Driving a Car
PSYCH-K® is a method that works directly with the subconscious to help rewrite what no longer works for you and replace it with empowering statements. The process involves various techniques that help achieve balance between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. You can also think of it as uploading supportive beliefs into your subconscious so you can start driving without fear.
Driving Phobia
This winter, I had my first minor car accident — it was icy, I was driving a short distance within my neighborhood, and although I saw well in advance that the cars in front of me were stopped due to the train barriers and I stepped on the brake… nothing… the car kept moving… slowly, but still moving… until I hit the car in front of me.
Subsequently, there was an enormous feeling of HELPLESSNESS stemming from being in a car that couldn’t be controlled and not being able to do anything about it. The following days, I was in a kind of “foggy” state, functioning on autopilot. It was simply a shock. Thanks to PSYCH-K®, I was able to destress and reduce the level of stress in my body. I supported myself with the statement: I am still a safe driver.
And I continue to drive with joy and enthusiasm.
Fear of Driving School
Lenka, after years of hesitation, decided to go to driving school and finally get her driver’s license to be more mobile and go wherever she needs without relying on public transport. She had been postponing it for years, feeling she wasn’t a suitable candidate for driving.
“Before the PSYCH-K® session with Petra, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. However, I wanted to try something different, as I couldn’t handle my issue with conventional methods. Before the session, I didn’t even realize where the exact problem was and why I was afraid behind the wheel. I felt that I simply couldn’t drive. Thanks to Petra and the PSYCH-K® method, I suddenly calmed down, relaxed, and felt that I too could drive and that I am a responsible, safe driver. I identified not only my fear but also other factors that were hindering my calm driving. Thanks to the PSYCH-K® method, I found that there are forms of working with the subconscious that really work. Petra guided me through the session calmly, pleasantly, and professionally. I recommend trying it.” Lenka Sobotová, project manager
I'm afraid of driving a car
- Another client started fearing turns and only drove when her husband was sitting next to her after a minor car accident. After the session, she overcame her fear and got back behind the wheel, writing to me: “I drove 25 km by myself, and it was great!”
- Another client had had a driver’s license for years but never drove. She reached a point in her life where it started to limit her plans. It turned out that she wasn’t afraid of driving itself, but she was afraid for the people around her. We worked gradually with statements like: I drive safely and with ease. I trust myself when driving and can react appropriately. I trust that other road users know what to do. I know that everyone is responsible for themselves.
By the end of the session, she had planned an action step — finding a driving school for refresher lessons.
Later, she wrote to me: “I diligently found the phone number for the driving school, but I’m still looking for time for the lessons… but last weekend, I flew to London, and although I’ve flown a lot and even long flights, I had always been nervous for many years. I realized when it actually started, but that’s not important — the important thing is that it disappeared. Nothing at all… I think it had the same root as the fear of driving.”
This is how PSYCH-K® can work — addressing one issue can also resolve other topics with the same origin.
Fear of driving a car can be a hurdle in life, but with the help of the PSYCH-K® method, it is possible to overcome it. Working with the subconscious and rewriting negative beliefs can lead to a significant improvement in your abilities and confidence behind the wheel.
